Abuja — FEDERAL Ministry of Youth Development has condemned the recent killings, especially three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in the mayhem that rocked Jos, Plateau state last Thursday.

In a statement signed by Olawale Rasheed, special assistant to the minister on Media and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the ministry said that it was unacceptable and unfortunate that Nigerians contributing their quota to national development should be caught in the cross fire of violence instigated by selfish considerations.

According to the statement, the Ministry had commenced an in-depth investigation to unravel the circumstances under which the corps members were hacked down in their prime, while in the service of their fatherland.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has dispatched the Director-General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Yusuf Bomoi, to the state in order to conduct a through investigation into the unpleasant incident.

The statement also said that the Ministry is putting measures in place to strengthen the security and overall protection of corps members while serving their fatherland.

"We are determined to ensure that such incident did not recur. We wish to assure parents and families of corps members nationwide that their sons and daughters are safe and secure as what happened in Jos is an exemption rather than the rule in the history of youth service in Nigeria," it read.

While sympathising with the families of the late corps members, the Ministry said "on behalf of the federal government, we express our heartfelt condolences to the families and relations of these loved ones, praying God to give us all the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss."
