Lagos — In its efforts to contribute to rural development, a Non-Government Organisation based in Bauchi known as Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative has trained women and youth from 15 communities drawn from Dass, Darazo and Gamawa Local Government Areas on Regenerated Friarian Literacy through Empowering Community Techniques (REFLECT) and Right Base Approach (RBA).
Speaking at the opening of the training in Bauchi, the President of the NGO, Maryam Garba explained that the objective of the training is to increase the literacy level of the participants, increase their advocacy skills on engagement with duty bearers as well as build their consciousness on right issues and the process of decision making.
Maryam Garba further stated that the end of the training workshop, REFLECT circle would be established in 15 target communities drawn from the participating local government areas of Dass, Darazo and Gamawa noting that the training became possible with support from Canada International Development Agency (CIDA), through Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI) projects. She disclosed that CIDA supported the project with sum of N3, 904,200.00 which she said would be disbursed in three installments.
She also stated CIDA has always been supported as they provides assistance to small scale projects that are self sustaining in nature, enabling them to respond quickly and adequately to local needs adding that CFLI aims to improve the quality of life of people in Nigeria through participatory initiatives and collective action in order to achieve good governance, gender equality, social, economic and political justice.
She however commended all various stakeholders and ministries for their effort in reaching at to the people at the grassroots noting that this would go a long way to improve their life. Maryam however reminded that there is still much work to be done as many rural communities are yearning for intervention.
