Monrovia — Liberian Ambassador to the Court of St. James, Wesley Momo Johnson has presented his Letters of Credence to the President of Northern Ireland Madam Mary McAleese.
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf appointed Ambassador Johnson as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with oversight responsible for Northern Ireland with residence in London, England, the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
In a dispatch to the Liberia News Agency from the Minister Counselor, Mr. Philip Gbadyu, at the Liberian Embassy in London, the ceremony was held in the State Reception Room at Aras An Uachtarian, the official residence of the President of Ireland in Dublin.
In his presentation statement, Ambassador Johnson conveyed to the Irish President cordial greetings and felicitations from President Ellen Johnson-
Sirleaf, the government and people of Liberia, to the President, government and people of Ireland.
Ambassador Johnson pledged to carry out his duties to further strengthen the cordial relationship that has existed between the two nations over the years.
Although Liberia and Ireland have enjoyed warm and friendly ties over the years, according to the dispatch, Mr. Johnson is Liberia's first ambassador to be accredited to Ireland.
The Ambassador reiterated Liberia's goal to rebuild its infrastructures, and noted "my country faces the monumental task of reconstruction following our civil conflict; it is my conviction that with the assistance of our friends like Ireland, success is inevitable."
Ambassador Johnson also highlighted matters crucial for the further strengthening of good relationship between the two nations.
He implored Liberians resident in that country to remain law-abiding and urged them to take advantage of the educational privileges afforded them by the country that has graciously given them home away from home.
The Liberian diplomat also expressed gratitude to the Irish military personnel who served with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) for their immense contribution which has helped to restore peace and sanity to Liberia.
