Nigeria: Kano Partners EC in Infrastructure Development

KANO State Government has offered to work closely with the European Commission, EC on areas of provision of communal infrastructure for the benefit of the state.

Kano Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau stated this while receiving the EC Coordinator/Team leader in charge of the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Programme, WSSSRP for Kano, Jigawa and Yobe states, Mr. Martin Ede who visited him.

Governor Shekarau who expressed happiness over the European Commission's financial and technical assistance to the state government in area of water supply and sanitation noted that his administration would utilize the designs presented to it by the WSSSRP to provide clean water and better environmental hygiene to the people.

He said the intervention of the international body would strengthen the capacity of the state government and its employees to provide improved services.

Malam Ibrahim Shekarau therefore thanked the European Commission for its contributions, adding that despite challenges, problems and limited resources to address development issues, the state government would remain steadfast in collaborating with the commission in other sectors of socio - economic development.

Earlier, the EC Coordinator, Mr. Martin Ede told the Governor that under the programme, designs for the Challawa - Goron Dutse pipeline and the Kano Eastern Bye-pass water schemes have been completed while plans for water supply in 16 small towns across the state have been developed.
