Tunisia: Artists Join the Fight Against Aids

Tunis — Tunis, December 4, 2008- The National Family Planning and Population Board (ONFP), organized on Wednesday an encounter with a number of artists and communicators. The meeting which aims at sensitizing young people to the fight against Aids, took place within the framework of the observance of the 2008 World Aids Day.

The Minister of culture and heritage preservation, Mr Abderraouf El Basti, hailed the board's initiative which enables the important contribution of Tunisian artists in the treatment of crucial social issues, touching on all sectors of life.

On her part, Mrs Najoua Miladi, the Secretary of State to the Minister of health, in charge of hospitals, said that the propagation of the disease in Tunisia is relatively limited, as the number of cases recorded during the last decade, does not exceed 70 par year.

She also highlighted the efforts carried out by the authorities in the prevention and fight against Aids in the country, since the first cases were discovered.
