Tunis — With one million inhabitants, the city of Sfax will soon have its own Olympic sport city. The project which will sprawl over some 42 hectares, is situated 11 kilometres from the city centre.
The project which is still at the stage of the call for tenders, is estimated at 40 million dinars, and will also comprise an ecological dimension.
The magnitude of the project which will include a football stadium with a capacity of 40,000 seats, of three grass pitches for training and of an indoor 9000 seat sports facility, will make Sfax the second Tunisian city after the capital, in terms of sports infrastructure. A parking area capable of accomodating 3700 cars and 67 buses is also planned.
The Olympic complex which also comprises tennis courts, a rugby pitch and an indoor swimming pool with a capacity of 500 spectators will be built on the road leading from Sfax to Gabes.
