Ghana: Netherlands to Contribute 100 Million Euros to Country's GPRS

5 December 2008

The Netherlands' Government and the Government of Ghana have signed a 100 million Euro arrangement in continuous support of Ghana's Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy. The contribution is aimed at strengthening the national budget in order to finance sustained poverty reduction and reform efforts for the coming four years.

The budget support is provided through the multi-donor budget support mechanisms, which confederate the Government of Ghana and eleven Development Partners around shared growth and poverty reduction targets and policy reform processes. Objectives and targets are laid down in rolling Performance Assessment Frameworks, of which the annual review constitutes the major barometer for assessing progress. Objectives and targets flow directly from the Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy II and several related reform programmes, and cover areas like education, health, modernisation of the public service and improved financial accountability.
