Yenagoa — Bayelsa State government has condemned the location of the proposed College of Petroleum Technology in Kaduna saying that the federal government is being unfair to the people of the Niger Delta region.
Meanwhile, Governor Timipre Sylva has threatened to sanction any of his political aides that make uncomplimentary remarks about Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Chief Asara A. Asara, who disclosed this while briefing Government House correspondents shortly after the weekly Executive Council meeting said the apex government was not appreciative of the contribution of the oil and gas region to the economic growth of the country.
He added that Oloibiri in Ogbia Local Government Area where the oil was discovered in commercial quantity in Nigeria in 1956 had been overtaken.
Asara therefore called on the federal government to have a re-think over its decision and relocate the college to Bayelsa State, to appease the people.
Also, he debunked insinuations in some quarters that frosty relations existed between Gov. Sylva and VP Jonathan.
Asara said that his boss held Jonathan in high esteem, and would never undermine the Vice-President.
He revealed that a bill aimed at checkmating the activities of the motorcyclists, otherwise known as okada riders, would soon be forwarded to the parliament.
He said after being passed into law and assented to by the state governor, it would curb the excesses of the okada riders and subsequently reduce accidents and carnage on the roads and streets of Bayelsa State.
