Cape Verde: Cape Verde's President Outlines Election Gains in Angola

Luanda — The Head of State of Cape Verde, Pedro Pires, affirmed this Friday, here, that the election held last September in Angola shows the political gains and strengthens the self-esteem of Angolans for legitimising their democratic institutions.

Speaking at a parliament plenary in his honour, the Cape Verdean President considered the election as a victory of the Angolan nation.

On the other hand, the statesman praised the fundamental role of President José Eduardo dos Santos for the achievement of peace in Angola.

"The achievement of peace in Angola is an unconquerable deed. The leading of the process, which made it possible, demanded trust, patience, clearness and great knowledge. I wish to reveal that the determinant role played by President José Eduardo dos Santos, in his governance, enabled Angolans to obtain a political and moral victory of great historic importance", he stressed.

The President of Cape Verde predicted that Angola would assume an important role in the African continent.

In his speech, Pedro Pires highlighted the good relations between both countries, affirming the existence of greater dynamism and trust, mainly in the business cooperation between Angola and Cape Verde.

Pedro Verona Rodrigues Pires on Thursday began his official visit to Angola at the invitation of the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

The President of Cape Verde was this Friday morning received by his Angolan counterpart, José Eduardo dos Santos.
