Nigeria/Senegal: Bosso Regrets Flying Eagles' Defeat

Lagos — The Flying Eagles loss to Senegal in the quarter-final of the on-going WAFU Under-20 Championship in Delta state has left coach Ladan Bosso disappointed as he is regretting the missed opportunity to play against the junior Elephants of Cote d 'Ivore who are one of his first round opponent at the African Youth Championship holding early next year in Rwanda.

Speaking after the Flying Eagles defeat by Senegal, coach Bosso expressed his disappointment over the loss especially as he has missed an opportunity to have a first hand knowledge of the playing style of the ivorians whom he would be coming up against in African Youth Championship in Rwanda.

He said playing against Cote d'ivore would have been a very valuable experience that could have served useful purpose in his preparations for the African Youth Championship.

Nevertheless, coach Bosso said he gained valuable experience from playing the WAFU Cup as he now has more insight into what awaits him in Rwanda and he has also been able to form a picture of the kind of players and team he would require in order to excel in the African Youth Championship.

After leading his team to a surprise victory over the Flying Eagles in the quarter-final of the championship, coach of the Senegal under-20 team, Mayacine Mar has expressed regret that his team had to play against the Flying Eagles in the qualifiers for the African Youth Championship and lost 3-0 aggregate.

According to coach, Mar had they met another team and not the Flying Eagles they would have qualified for the African Youth Championship in Rwanda . He said the Flying Eagles are a strong team and the fact that they were defeated in the WAFU Cup does not take anything away from the team especially as penalty shootout is a game of luck.

He said they hope to go all the way in the championship now that Nigeria who are the favourite are out as their aim is to make up for their inability to qualify for the African Youth Championship by winning the WAFU cup.
