Somalia — Pirates attacked a Dutch container ship off the coast of Tanzania, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the International Maritime Bureau.
The armed attackers, whose assault on Dec. 6 sparked a fire on board, failed to take over the vessel, which had 19 crew on board, AFP said. The pirates are believed to be from Somalia, AFP said, citing Noel Choong, head of the bureaus piracy reporting center in Kuala Lumpur.
Pirates have attacked more than 120 vessels off Somalias coast and in the Gulf of Aden this year. The International Maritime Bureau has advised all vessels to stay at least 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from the Somali coast.
