7 December 2008

NIGERIA yesterday in Lagos hosted an interdenomination gospel concert tagged The Experience, an event which featured some of the best-known contemporary musical talents.

The event which debuted in December 2006 with over 70,000 persons in attendance rapidly gained momentum at its second outing a year later with a quantum leap in attendance with over 250,000 people! The Experience has now become known as the largest musical concert in Africa.

The event witnessed 12 hours of uninterrupted live music. At its inception, it was simply an opportunity for Nigerians to put aside tribe, tongue, class and creed: to come together for a night of uplifting inspirational music. Amazingly the event has become much more than the organizers could ever have imagined, for it has become a global phenomenon; the world's largest gospel concert.

The Experience is seen as a bridge of reconciliation and a beacon of light and hope to the much afflicted and the often malignant content of the continent. It showcases the immense potential of the continent, its people and what can be achieved in spite of adversity.

The event which was convened by Pastor Paul Adefarasin of the House on the Rock Church, featured award winning artist; Kirk Franklin, Donnie Mclurkin, Don Moen, Fred Hammond, Kurt Carr, Chevelle Franklin from Jamaica, Gospel duo Mary Mary, United Kingdom based recording artist and radio presenter, Muyiwa Olanrewaju and Nigerian artistes, Dekunle Fuji and Midnight crew.
