Nigeria/Côte d'Ivoire: Bosso Regrets Ivory Coast Miss

8 December 2008

After the Flying Eagles penalty shootout loss to Senegal in the quarterfinals of the WAFU Under-20 championship, coach Ladan Bosso was left ruing the missed opportunity to play against the junior Elephants of Ivory Coast, one of his first round opponents at next year's African Youth Championship in Rwanda.

"I am disappointed over the loss, especially as we have missed an opportunity to have a first hand knowledge of the playing style of the Ivoirians who we would be coming up against at the AYC in Rwanda," Bosso said.

"Playing against Ivory Coast would have been a very valuable experience that could have served a useful purpose in our preparations for the African Youth Championship."

Bosso was however keen to take some positives from the defeat.

"We gained valuable experience from playing the WAFU cup as we now have more insight into what awaits us in Rwanda and we have also been able to form a picture of the kind of players and team we would require in order to excel at the African Youth Championship."
