Uyo — All is now set for the final of the 1st Akpabio Cup for Under-17 boys and girld holding today (Tuesday) at the Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom.
After nine days of non-stop action, host, Akwa Ibom State will battle Kano in the final.
To get to the final, Akwa Ibom whipped an helpless Bayelsa State team 4-1 while Kano, aganst all odds, defeated tournament's favourites, Abia, 4-3 on penalties, after scores were tied at 1-1, at the end of reguation time.
Both teams shpwed flashes of potential winners from the blast of the referee's whitle and maintained the tempo, till the end.
Abia, opened scoring in the early minutes of the game and Kano snatched the equaliser at the dot of half time.
With th final pairing pitching the hosts against their nothern brothers, N500 000 prize money is up for grabs for the winner while Bayelsa and Abia will file out earlier in the day for the thrid placed match, which will attract the sum prize of N200 000.
The final match would be used to celebrate the 46th birthday of Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State, who is expected to be the special guest of honour at the event.
The Governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji is also expected to the present at the grand finale.
Also expected is Dr. Tony Udoh, who is the Managing Director ot Progenics Incorporated, an information technology firm basd in Lagos and a partner to the competition.
According to the Spokesman of YSFON, organisers of the tournament, youths acorss the country have availed themselves the opportunity of fraternising with other youths and promised a better organisation at the 2nd edition, scheduled to hold same time next years the Uyo Township stadium.
