Botswana: Under 23 Side Awaits Lesotho

Boitumelo Khutsafalo

9 December 2008

The national Under-23 team is expected to prove its mettle when they face the Lesotho senior national team tomorrow night at University of Botswana Stadium.

The junior team is under the tutelage of Zebras' coach Stanley Tshosane who has been roped in on a temporary basis.

This might be the last game for the current Under-23 side as the Botswana Football Association (BFA) will assemble a new team next year for the 2012 Olympics in London. The team that plays Lesotho tomorrow includes a few senior national team players like Mompati Thuma, Pontsho Moloi, Vincent Phiri and Joseph Phetogo.

BFA technical director, Losika Keatlholetswe explained that the bulk of the current Under-23 players are likely to play for the senior team and they decided to include a few senior players to guide them.

He explained that Tshosane is only the caretaker coach for the Lesotho match while the association is still in the process of appointing a substantive Under-23 tactician. The post became vacant after Kenneth Mogae was promoted to the senior team to assist Tshosane. Mogae had taken over from David Bright who left to coach Engen Santos in South Africa.

Tshosane told journalists yesterday that his players are responding well at training and they have been cooperative. The boys started training last week. They have already played two friendly games against Township Rollers and Extension Gunners. They beat Rollers 1-0 but the game against Gunners was abandoned midway because of rain.

Tshosane said that although Botswana has beaten Lesotho on many occasions, it has always been tough. That is why he is expecting a tough game. The Lesotho team arrived yesterday for the game that kicks off at 7pm. Tickets will be sold for P25 from UB Stadium and South Ring Mall Filling Station tomorrow morning.

The following is final team list for the Botswana Under-23 side:

Motlotlegi Kootswetse, Thuma, Mmusa Ohilwe, Mosimanegape Ramohibidu, Noah Maposa, Gobonyeone Selefa, Kekaetswe Moloi, Pontsho Moloi, Edwin Mokibe (Kopong United), Boitumelo Modisaotsile, Phetogo, Ofentse Mmipi, Kemmy Pilato, Moreetsi Mosimanyana, Dirang Moloi, Tebogo Sembowa, Jackie Mothatego, Tebogo Sebina, Thebe Maiketso, Edwin Moalosi, Kaone Molefe and Phiri.
