Nigeria: Legends Demystify Auto Marketing

Participants at the recently held National Automobile Marketing Conference could not have asked for more. They were tutored on how to ensure good returns on their car dealership investments by attracting volume sales. The event, which was organised by Executive Trainers Limited, with the theme: Empowering Auto Marketers for Personal Development and Maximisation of Profits through increased sales", according to the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of the capacity building company, would be an annual event.

The participants, who were drawn from people in the auto industry, banking, shipping and insurance sector, had time out with some of the legends, who made it through hard work and perseverance in the auto industry. The legends that had their virtues extolled by their representatives at the event included: Michael Ade Ojo, Chairman of Toyota Nigeria Limited (TNL); Sanni Dauda, Chairman, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN); Molade Okoya Thomas, Chairman, CFAO Group; and William Anumudu, Chairman, Globe Motors Holdings Nigeria Limited.

Incidentally, most of the legends had some traits in common which saw them got to the peak of car marketing business in the country. The participants were made to know that some intrinsic values such as honesty, perseverance, truth, being focus and having a passion for sales were parts of the attributes exhibited by the so called gurus in the industry that made them to excel in the industry. For instance, Mr Olu Tikolo, Director of Marketing, TNL, who represented Chief Ade Ojo at the event described Chief Ade Ojo has being brave, hardworking and a thoroughly honest man, who believes that everything in the world is negotiable. He said Chief Ade Ojo believes that to succeed in the auto marketing industry, marketers should have clear mission of what they want to achieve and that they should love people and empathise with them. They must also genuinely look for customers who in turn would refer more people to them.

Mr Abubakar Jemeta, Corporate Sales Manager of PAN, said his chairman believes that by being focus, dedicated, having passion for sales and working hard will take any marketer in the industry to a greater height.

According to Olusola Dada, President, Institute of Directors (IoD), who was the chairman at the event, participants learnt proven steps to greatness, with particular reference to the automobile industry, a very competitive and capital intensive sector.

"This inaugural edition of the National Conference on Automobile Marketing has aptly chosen the vehicle of mentoring as a form of positively imparting the sector by allowing those who have made it share their experiences with up and coming marketers desirous of growth," he stated.
