Abuja — International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) has condemned all forms of abuse and violence meted out to women in the country by their male counterparts.
It, therefore, called for stiffer penalty against the perpetrators of such gender-based violence.
FIDA made the condemnation as the world celebrates International Human Rights Day.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at a campaign against gender-based violence, Chairperson of FIDA, Abuja branch, Chinelo Iriele, called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the fight against gender-based violence.
Making reference to statistics from the United Nation's Population Fund (UNFPA), Iriele disclosed that between 700,000 and two million women are trafficked across international borders annually for prostitution and child labour.
