Lagos — Few people watching the recently concluded and highly successful blockade of airports thought it was going to end the way it did - on a happy note.

When the head of the army, General Anupong Paochinda, called on embattled Prime Minister, Somchai Wongsawat, to resign, many observers feared that it was a precursors for yet another military intervention in a country where the notion that military rule has become otiose and unfashionable does not seem to hold water.
