Nigeria: N3 Million, Bus for Yar'Adua U-20 Winner

Winner of the Shehu Musa Yar'adua National Under-20 Soccer Championship will take home a cash prize of N3 million and a brand new 2-seater bus.

The runners-up will pocket N2 million, while the third place team will smile home with N1 million and the fourth-placed team will get a consolation of N600, 000.

Disclosing this yesterday, Secretary of the Local Organi-sing Committee (LOC) for the championship, Mohammed Sa-nusi said the Most Valuable Pla-yer, best referee and fair play team will each pocket N300, 000.

Also yesterday, organisers said the maiden edition of the Shehu Musa Yar'adua National Under-20 Soccer Championship has been scheduled to begin on Saturday throughout the 774 local council areas in the country.

According to Patrick Andrew, Media Coordinator for the soc-cer fiesta, the preliminary mat-ches for the annual event would start at the various wards this Saturday and continue till De-cember 27when the local go-vernment championships are expected to be completed.

He added that the each state Football Association will in January organise the cham-pionship at the state level, using its sports zones from where two teams will be selected to the state at the national level.

"Two teams will represent each state at the national zonal level where the states are to be grouped into the six geo-political zones for a knock-out competition. These latter preliminaries are to be held in January and February respectively", Andrew stated.

He also said each geo-political zone will be represented by two teams that will be joined by four best losers to make up 16 teams that will battle for the national finals in April 2009.
