The Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro said policemen whose guns are stolen or no where to be found will face stiffer punishment.
Okiro gave the warning in Abuja yesterday during a meeting with Mobile Police Force Squadron (PMF) Commanders.
He said any policeman who allows guns attached to him to be stolen or to get missing will be held responsible and will be punished severely.
He said all guns assigned to policemen should be handled carefully as the Force will not tolerate any case of loss of fire arm.
He directed that all mobile policemen be given four pairs of uniform with new modified badges.
He said, "The barges will enable us identify the real policemen from the fake ones. Any body found without the badge attached to his uniform will be arrested as fake policeman and will be prosecuted."
The IGP told the Commanders to avoid doing any unauthorized duty as well as stop extorting money from the people.
"For avoidance of doubt any policeman caught extorting money from anybody will be dismissed from the Force," Okiro said.
