Nigeria: Plateau Embarks On Construction of Specialist Hospitals

Jos — Plateau Commissioner For Health, Angela Miri, has disclosed that the state government has embarked on the construction of one specialist hospital in each of the three senatorial zones.

Miri made the disclosure while flagging off the 2008 integrated Measles campaign held in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.

According to her, government is at present renovating health facilities across the state, as well as, providing basic, adequate drugs in the state health facilities, which is geared towards improving the welfare of the people of the state.

She said in the area of disease prevention, various activities is going on in the state, including immunisation, environmental sanitation, malaria control, provision of portable water among many others.

The commissioner added that the state is in the forefront in terms of high immunisation coverage, with the attendant low disease incidence, adding that the state is a model in terms of health care delivery, but, however, lament that today, the situation has changed, leading to increased diseases.

She also regretted the recent outbreak of poliomyelitis in the state, saying all hands must be on deck to ensure that the status quo is change, while appealing to royal and political leaders to preach peace and tolerance.

She added that without peace, health workers will not be willing to go to the villages to delivered vitamin vaccines and supplement to the children.

Earlier in his opening remark, acting chairman of the council, Nalde Goselle, appealed to the state ministry of health and its partners to allocate enough vaccines to the council.

He added that the integrated measles campaign designed to vaccinate all children from birth to the age of five with measles and polio vaccines, will go a long way in reducing child killer diseases in the state.
