Nigeria: National Para-Soccer Championship Begins December 15

The 2008 edition of the Nationa Para-soccer Championship has been fixed for December 15 to 17 at the Handball pitch of the Abuja National Stadium.

According to a statement from the Para-soccer Federation of Nigeria and made available to Trustsports yesterday said the championship is aim at preparing states for the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Kaduna next February.

The statement, signed by the federation's Secretary Abobi P E, also informed that the aimed at creating awareness and promoting participation among youths who believe in ability in disability.

"This championship comes at a good time when all states of the federation are vigorously making efforts to plan, train and participate effectively at the 16th National Sports Festival in Kaduna.

"The participating teams and players are to use this championship to test their strength against possible opponents at the festival.

"Also the championship will create the much needed awareness to among the youths who believe that there is ability in disability", the statement said.

Para-soccer is a game invented by its current President, Alhaji Misbahu Lawan Didi, and played by the physically challenged persons with lower limb impairment.
