The new PHCN Chief executive officer, Kano Distribution Company, Alhaji Abdullahi Tafida, has assured Kano residents of the provision of adequate technical infrastructure needed to get some projected 700mw of electri-city before the year 2010.

In a meeting with the Senior Management Staff of the Com-pany over the weekend, Tafida said he is determined to restore discipline in the company and to provide the structural base necessary for the realization of the vision of the present admi-nistration for the sector.

He said his mission will be to entrench a culture of commercial efficiency and viability so that the current losses being suffe-red by the company will be dras-tically reduced to pave way for greater accountability and cus-tomer satisfaction.

Tafida also promised Kano customers that the "unduly hardship" being unnecessarily meted out to them will be se-riously looked into with a view to improving its services for them.

While promising to work col-lectively with every stakeholder and especially members of staff whose cooperation are needed to realize the set goals and objec-tives, he also promised to be fair to all and ensure a greater motivation for the workforce.

Tafida however warned that it is no longer business as usual as "yesterday was not today". He said change has come and that the sooner the change is ac-cepted and internalized, the better it will be for all.

Kano has been without ade-quate power supply for years and this has led to the closure of over 600 industries in the last 9 years throwing the once commer-cial city into economic albatross.
