Pantomime, the kind of drama, music and dance which has its origins in the British tradition, has found its way to East African theatre audiences.

First to taste it is Kampala city and it has been popularized by Kampala Amateur Dramatics Society (KADS).

For this year's Christmas pantomime, KADS chose the story of Robin Hood to attack the sugar barons who wanted Mabira forest cut down to plant sugarcane.

The play "Robin Hood of Mabira Forest" has strong political undertones amid orchestra music and it is a criticism of the Government of Uganda's dealings with the sugar barons of Sugar Corporation of Uganda (SCOUL) for wanting to destroy Mother Nature. The play ends on a good note as Robin Hood (Ashley Willison) marries the police officer's niece, Maid Marion (Barbara Kasekende) and as punishment, the officer is forced to marry widow Winterbottom (David Griffiths).
