Ghana: GNAT Village Project Enters Second Phase

The second phase of the Ghana National Association of Teachers' (GNAT) Village Project involving the construction of a two-storey guest house and hostels is progressing steadily.

Mr. Antwi Barima, caretaker of the project, said the 24-room guest house and the hostel block would be completed by the end of 2009.

He made the disclosure when he led the Kwabre District Council Members of GNAT to inspect the project at Abankro near Ejisu in the Ejisu-Juabeng Municipality last Friday.

Mr. Barima said the completed phase one comprised offices, a dining hall, kitchen, cold stores, sleeping rooms for cooks, toilet facilities, mechanized boreholes, electricity installation and an underground store room for equipment and foodstuffs.

The project is being executed by Barbisotti Construction Company with funds from members' dues.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr. Johnson Addae-Poku, the District GNAT Chairman said the visit was to enable them know what the Association was doing for members.

Mr. Addae-Poku hoped they would go back and report what they had seen to other members to be more committed to the association.

Mr Osei Bempa, the District GNAT Secretary noted that the Association was committed to the welfare of members adding that the Village was open to every individual and organizations.
