Kampala — NATIONAL champion Vincent Byamukama capped a great year on the course with victory in the season ending Kinyara Golf Open in Masindi on Sunday.

Playing on a very dry course, Byamukama carded 155 to win the two-day stroke-play tournament. Byamukama, who chalked up his seventh Uganda Golf Union (UGU) stroke-play event of the season, beat Jinja's Ian Odokonyero by four strokes.

Byamukama was happy with the win but was amazed by what he described as 'a very poor score.' "The course was very dry and therefore very difficult to play. I have never recorded such a score and still won a prize. I am glad I have completed another great season with a win," Byamukama stated.

Byamukama is the reigning USPA-Uganda telecom golfer of year 2007. Entebbe club's Stephen Odongo took third position, 11 strokes behind the winner of the 36-hole Kinyara Sugar Works sponsored event.

Julius Tinka carded 135 nett to win the men's nett event while John Ezati (189) beat Moses Toko by nine strokes to claim the juniors' title.

Sheila Rugumayo with 147 nett won the women category. In the professional event Brian Tolit shot 153 to claim the sh0.5m top cash prize courtesy of sponsors Kinyara.

Denis Onyango (157) and Herman Mutaawe (158) were second and third respective.
