Nigeria: Govt Urged to Salvage Three Million Refugees in Congo

Kano — An appeal has been made to Nigeria to play a leading role in tackling the problem of the three million people displaced by the crises in the Republic of Congo , as presently the victims need the intervention of African governments, NGOs and other humanitarian organisations to rescue the situation.

The appeal was made by the World President of Sheikh Imam Hassan Sessie Foundation ( for Peace), Sheikh Ibrahim Baye Sessie, while fielding questions from journalists in Kano. He said that already, the Congo Star Foundation is doing its best to assist the victims, however, due to the magnitude of the problem being faced by the refugees in the country, the foundation had limited resources to cater for them.

He mentioned that the victims were yet to receive the desired attention of the international communities because the media had under reported the troubles them in the country.

Sheikh Ibrahim Sessie, who is a great-grand son of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas, was in Nigeria to meet with the muslim community and more especially the Tijjaniyya sect followers in preparation for the launch of the Nigerian chapter of the Late Sheikh Imam Hassan Sessie Foundation, and expressed concerned that the a 3 million people in Congo run in to bush due to the magnitude of the crises.

He said the Congo Star Foundation was very active in assisting the victims who lost their property and houses to the crises, saying NGOs and governments in Africa should hasten and mobilize aid for the victims.

The president explained that Nigeria as a country playing leading roles in assisting African countries should expedite action to mobilise other countries and organisations for such humanitarian services, saying people should give the little they have for the displaced persons in Congo .

He then expressed concern over the happenings in Jos, were several lives and property were lost, saying people misunderstood the concept of peace being preached by Islam , adding that Islam was misunderstood by the non muslims and even among muslim communities, that's why people are going astray, he stated."
