South Africa: Aces Show Ndlovu the Door

17 December 2008

Zimbabwean defender Bekithemba Ndlovu has been shown the door at Mpumalanga Black Aces after falling out with the team just under six months since joining them from Platinum Stars.

In the time that he has spent with the Witbank-based club Ndlovu started just one match as he was never preferred by then-coach Innocent Mayoyo.

"We have terminated Ndlovu's contract," says CEO Peter Koutroulis.

"He never brought the kind of value that we thought he would when we signed him from Platinum Stars at the beginning of the season. We paid a lot of money for him, but we did not get that much in return.

"There was a time that we called him in for a meeting and asked him to raise his game, but that never happened. Instead we began to have a lot of problems with him which dragged for weeks.

"According to the information that we have on hand he then never came to training for seven days after the Dynamos game, which we consider absentia from duty. He then claimed to have been involved in an accident but we never got proof of that.

"As a foreign player we expected him to make a difference to our team and not just add to the numbers. I am of the opinion that a foreign player must not come here to sit on the bench, he should be a regular who brings value," claims Koutroulis.

"But at this stage Ndlovu hasn't been back to ask for his clearance and I don't know what he is planning. Maybe he plans to fight us through the CCMA, but we will just wait. If he wants his clearance, we are more than willing to give it to him right away," he added.
