Standard Chartered Bank, Hemamo Branch working together with a host of local artists raised money for charity during a fund-raising dinner held at the Gaborone Sun last Saturday.
Some of the artists who took part in this philanthropic gesture included Tebogo 'Tebbie' Sethomo, Punah Gabasiane, Lekofi Sejeso, Kabo Leburu and Nnunu Ramogotsi.
Welcoming guests at the event, Hemamo branch manager, Julia Tlhotlhologolo, said that they as Standard Chartered Bank were proud and excited to be working hand-in- hand with Thuto Boswa Rehabilitation Centre by assisting them to implement 'the programmes they have set out for their children with physical and mental challenges'.
"These children are certainly abled and with the help from people like you and me and organisations like yours and ours, they can excel in their lives," she said.
As always, Punah was in her element offering some of the popular folk songs tinged with mellow jazz to the delight of her audience. Some of the songs the gifted singer performed included Dikeledi, Mmangwane Mpulele and Gakeete.
Not to be outclassed, Hemamo Idols were the show-stealers of the night as they offered a number of songs including the danceable gospel chorus Madi A Gagwe. This proved beyond doubt that the 'bankers' are multi-talented.
Just before dinner, Serty Leburu who was the guest of honour at the event presented a cheque of P 20,000 to Okwale Masenya of Thuto Boswa Rehabilitation Centre, which is based in Ramotswa.
As guests had a sumptuous dinner, Nnunu Ramogotsi, who is well-known in the jazz circles, did renditions of songs by a number of artists such as Ketshepile Mang (Judith Sephuma), Pata Pata (Miriam Makeba), Jabulani (P J Powers) and Shauriako.
After the performance of the gifted Ramogotsi who is yet to release an album, Kabo Leburu, together with his band took to the stage and performed songs from his recently launched album, Footsteps.
Tebbie, who sang some of her songs, Uthando Lo Nganga, Lorato and Maleo, followed Leburu.
Speaking to Showbiz Tebbie said nothing pleases her more than giving back to society and the artist asserted that she has given a number of times to the needy.
"When Hemamo approached me about the concept, I quickly agreed to take part and I declined any money offered because as an artist, I must always be prepared to help wherever I can. I cannot expect people to keep on buying my albums while I do not give back in return," the outspoken gospel singer said.
The director of ceremonies for the night was former radio personality One Rabantheng.
