Botswana: DJ Selector Drops House Channel 2

Ephraim Keoreng

17 December 2008

Moremi Radira, otherwise known as DJ Selector, has released his second album entitled House Channel 2.

The album has 12 tracks. This album is the club disk jockey's sophomore work. It is preceded by his debut DJ Selector: The Project, Session 1, which had songs like Go ikelwa.

The new album has Perekedza, a song that has been copped off from Oliver Mtukudzi's popular song. By picking this song the DJ had made a conscious decision to attract music lovers and get them buying a copy of his work. Mtukudzi's version of this song makes good listening and you can imagine how it sounds when married with house tunes. It is a marvel, a must listen.

The second track, Club Mix was first shot as a video before it was incorporated into the album. According to Radira, "I wanted to test the waters and see how the people would respond to it. The response was awesome. It really showed me that people love house," he says.

He says the song is about having fun and enjoying life on a weekend.

Fly Away, he says is strictly a DJ's song. It is the music that a DJ would play to psyche himself up as he prepares to "burn the club with his mix. It is like a worship song that people in church would sing as they prepare themselves", explains DJ Selector.

Ranting raves is a rich work of house beats that celebrate house music. It will surely make good listening for the house music lover.

Most musicians like to throw in a gospel tune in their albums. They do this to tap on the Christian fan base, especially the youth who are likely to enjoy house tunes than their elders in church.

DJs do what is called Gospel-House, playing house tunes alongside a known gospel song and this has proved profitable as it attracts a lot of music lovers to buy their works.

DJ selector's fifth track is called Jeso Yo. It praises the Christian figure Jesus Christ, a man who, according to the Bible, is a selfless individual who gave his life to ensure people do not perish but have everlasting life. The song is sung by the DJ's girlfriend Kegomoditswe Mafuthe.

"She is a good singer. The two of us make a good team both as lovers and in music," he says.

Other interesting songs are Go ikelwa, Electrodize, Getting lost and Di A Duma.

The album was recorded at So Hype Records, where it was mastered by Massie. The Sleeve design is by Hype Advertising.
