Ginda — Efforts to expand electricity supply to all part of Ginda sub-zone, previously confined to limited areas, are bearing fruitful outcome, according to Mr. Mehreteab Tesfazgi, head of the Eritrean Electricity Corporation office in the sub-zone.
He pointed out that old electricity lines have been repaired for better and reliable service and that the transformers that were installed in inconvenient sites have now been replanted in suitable places.
So far, over 78 km-long electricity lines have been distributed and over 1,000 poles and 32 transformers put in place, in addition to the installation of electricity devices and power supply distribution stations. Mr. Mehreteab further indicated that a number of areas, including Nefasit, Gahtelai, Ginda, Mai-Haber, Bizen and Dengolo have now access to reliable power supply thanks to the ongoing rural electrification program. The number of customers has also increased by 148%, he added.
Reports indicated that the second phase of electricity distribution program in Mai-Habar would be finalized by 2009 and the newly built residential houses in Ginda town would receive power supply in the same year.
