General Muhamadu Wushishi (rtd) is expected to appear before the Judicial Commission of Inquiry set up by Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Aliyu to probe his predecessor.
Wushishi is expected to give evidence at the commission on the issue of supply of tractors to the state government under the leadership of Engineer Abdullahi A. Kure. He is the owner of Metagro Company which supplied 50 tractors at the cost of N221m from Ukraine to the state government.
Wushishi, who was earlier invited to testify before the commission on Monday failed to appear. His defence counsel, Mr. Irioagalachi Anthony explaining the reason for his absence, maintained that a witness had no right to compel anyone to give evidence unless it is the decision of the commission to do so.
He maintained that the company in question was an entity separate from its owner, adding that the company had obliged the commission by sending a representative earlier to speak on its behalf. He submitted that all evidence pointed out that his client supplied tractors and they were in good working condition.
"All we want is for the commission to set aside the invitation of his client to appear in this commission. Even if he appears here it will go to non issue since evidence does not exist," he submitted.
It would be recalled that Engineer Kure had filed an appeal through his counsel, Chief Latif Fagbemi requesting that Wushishi appears before the JCI to answer some questions which the counsel to the witness would like to ask him.
Despite the arguments advanced by Mr Irioagalachi, the counsel to Kure , Chief Fagbemi managed to impress upon the chairman of the commission to ask the retired general for the second time to come.
