Lagos — The ITA - NNPC Junior Circuit tennis tournament taking place at the Enugu Sports Club gathered full steam with the prospect of the boys' and girls' 16 winners challenging top senior national players really serving as an added incentive for the players..
The girls' champion is to be rewarded with a full three set match with national champion Christy Agugbom while the boys' 16 winner will challenge Augustine Nwokedi ranked No, 5 in Nigeria.
In some of the matches decided Wednesday, the fifth seed in the boys 16, Azuka Benson, suffered an upset in the hands of 14 and under top seed, Umoru Balami who was playing up one category. Balami from the Co-Foundation Kaduna beat Benson from Lagos 9-7.
Ayinde Rasaq from Lagos beat Chukwuemeka Iloputa from Enugu 9-4 and Yakubu Joshua from Taraba eliminated Eberechi Ohanu 9-0 all in the boys' 16 category. In the only girls' 16 match decided, Sarah Adegoke beat Chioma Igwe 9-0.
