Botswana: Tamirepi Bemoans Untimely Break

Boitumelo Khutsafalo

18 December 2008

BMC coach, Godfrey Tamirepi has said that being inactive has had a negative impact on his players' recent performance.

Although BMC started the season on a high note, winning their first three games, their good run was disrupted by the long break caused by the Munhumutapa sponsorship debacle. All the other clubs have played seven games each, while BMC and Police XI have had five assignments only.

It was obvious in the 0-0 draw between Police XI and BMC last weekend that the fitness level of the two sides is not up to scratch. However Tamirepi told Mmegi Sport that despite the problems with fitness, the morale is very high in the camp and his players are looking forward to tonight's clash with Gaborone United (GU) in a be Mobile Premier League game at the University of Botswana Stadium. Kickoff is at 7pm. He said against Police XI, they failed to score despite creating numerous chances. He added besides efforts to boost confidence and fitness level, that they have been working on how to rectify the problem of scoring ever since the game against Police XI.

Despite facing a GU side that has been doing well, Tamirepi is not worried He explained that GU is a good team especially in attack but he doubts its defensive capability as they have been conceding many goals even when they won. He believes that tonight, the team that take firm control of the midfield will emerge tops. He plans to attack GU from the onset. He hopes that the match officials will do a good because some decisions in the past games have been suspect and questionable.

BMC will have full squad for the game. The club's strength in the past few seasons has been rock solid rearguard where no nonsense defenders like Tumisang Sekanonyane, Alex Matshameko and influential captain, Mosimanegape Ramohibidu play a prominent role. The return of Mmusa Ohilwe who spent a season at Township Rollers has boosted BMC's defensive capabilities. Since his return he has been in good form, scoring three goals and standing tall as a sweeper. BMC have collected 11 points and have the best defensive record after conceding only one goal.

Many believe GU's loss to BDF XI last Sunday threw the race for the league title wide open and whether they have fully recovered from their first defeat of the season will be tested tonight. Against BDF XI, GU rarely played their quick and short passing game and this gave their opponents an advantage. The Reds still remain the title favourites as they have assembled arguably the best squad in the league. Tshepo 'Schoolboy' Molefe and Ronald Chikomo remain the key figures for GU in tonights match.
