Kampala — THE Uganda Christian University, Mukono is to construct a $5.5m (about sh11b) library.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stephen Noll, said yesterday that construction of the library begins in March.
"We are raising funds from international friends and well-wishers, the Church of Uganda, and the student's development fund contributions," disclosed the vice-chancellor.
He was speaking at the launch of a fundraising drive to build the Ham Mukasa library.
Noll said the library will be the biggest privately-funded such facility in the country.
The three-storeyed building will seat 1,200 students and hold about 200,000 books.
The dean of research and graduate studies, Patrick Magheni, said the university would also build a double-storeyed computer IT centre.
The late Ham Mukasa, remembered as a committed Christian and an educationist, donated the land.
