Nigeria: Ethiopian Airlines Celebrates Abuja Route

19 December 2008

As Ethiopian Airlines continue to celebrate its direct flight to Abuja, the airline has entered into a code share agreement with Saudi Arabian Airlines.

The code share applies to the Addis Ababa-Jeddah-Addis Ababa route, providing customers a wider choice of service. The recently-formalized agreement is a significant step forward in strengthening the relationship between the two airlines.

Under this agreement, the two carriers jointly provide six weekly flights on the Addis Ababa-Jeddah and Jeddah-Addis Ababa routes.

Mr. Busera Awel, Vice President Commercial of Ethiopian said, "The new code share agreement underscores our commitment to offer our customers more options of convenient connections to various points."

Mr. Ahmed AlJohani, Saudi Arabian Manager for Ethiopia, stated that the new code-share agreement not only avails more benefits to the customers but also strengthens the partnership of the two carriers.

Ethiopian currently has code share agreements with Lufthansa, Brussels Airlines, South African Airways, Gulf Air, Air One and Kuwait Airways.

It will be recalled that Ethiopian Airlines last month introduced nonstop service from Addis Ababa to Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. The flight is Abuja's first direct link to East Africa.

Mr. Busera Awel, Vice President of Ethiopian Airlines said "Our new service to Abuja is part of our strategy of expanding to more stations in Africa, particularly West Africa"

"We have a dedicated client base in Nigeria, and by offering new service we are giving our passengers more options complimenting our Lagos service with three weekly flights to Abuja." added Mr. Busera Awel.

The new flights will offer direct connections via Addis Ababa to Dubai as well as the major capitals of East, Central and Southern Africa, including Johannesburg, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Kinshasa, Brazzaville, Lusaka and Lilongwe.
