Nigeria: Christmas - Price of Rice, Beef Stable

As the Christmas celebration is three days away, residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are enjoying stable market price of some of the commodities like rice and beef.

LEADERSHIP market survey revealed that the price of rice which was sold at N9,000 per bag, now sold at the rate of N7,000 and N8,000 while the kilo of cow meat is sold at the normal price of N800.When our correspondent visited Karu market in FCT, he had a brief talk with one Alice Kato, who said, "We are happy with the present administration for making rice available as promised by President Yar'Adua. We, the poor, are not able to buy, at least, a bag of rice in our house. So, we should give more support to Yar'Adua's government for him to do more for our nation," she pointed.LEADERSHIP survey at the goat market in Nyanya, showed that the price of goat has increased by two percent.

A goat dealer, Malam Shehu Nuhu, explaining the increase in the prices, said there were high cost of transportation and the demand for it are high, that is why there is slightly price increase.Also, the price of chicken had increased from N1000 to N1,200 and N1,500 to N2,000 depending on the size.However, Mr. John Johnson who spoke with LEADERSHIP said the Federal Government should do something about the hike in fuel to enable those who are supplying goats to find it easy at this time of the season.
