Nigeria: Lagos Committed to Hosting WC

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola says the state is 'passionate' about hosting next year's FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

"We are passionate about hosting the World Cup. We appreciate the inherent benefits in hosting such global events and that is the reason we have resolved to make the best of the opportunity.

"I wish to re-assure the federal government of our readiness to host the world next year," Fashola stated while accompanying Vice President Goodluck Jonathan on an inspection tour of facilities at the Teslim Balogun Stadium at the weekend.

He commended the Lagos Sub-Seat for the high standard of work at all the designated facilities, especially the Teslim Balogun Stadium which he described as impressive.

"They are doing a good job. I wish to commend them on the quality of work in all the facilities. I have no doubt that the Vice President is happy with what he has seen on ground. I am also very optimistic that FIFA will be very impressed when they come next year," he said.

The Vice President, who oversees the LOC, was impressed by the facilities at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.

"I am impressed with the quality of work going on at the stadium. I have no doubt FIFA would also be impressed."
