Nigeria: Kano to Treat 1,350 Hernia Patients

As part of its plans to improve the health and general well being of the people, Kano State government has concluded arrangements to flag off mass hernia outreach campaign targeted at1,350 patients.

Speaking to newsmen in Kano , the team leader of the Dambatta Centre of the exercise, Dr M.D. Shehu, said the campaign was aimed at reducing hernia cases among the people of the state.

Dr Shehu added that because of the prevalence of the disease, the state government had expended the sum of N8 million in the procurement of medical equipment and drugs that would be used during the programme.

He said the campaign was an annual event initiated by the present administration to reduce the menace of the disease among members of the society, adding that this phase would last for two weeks.

The team leader further stated that apart from the hernia campaign, there were other free packages initiated - and some consolidated - by the present administration. Among them, he said, were free eye cataract surgery, free maternal healthcare services, among others.

Dr Shehu therefore charged the beneficiaries one of the patients, to give maximum cooperation to the programme, saying it is aimed at improving their health conditions.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Sani Hamza, thanked the state government for coming to their aid by giving them free healthcare services.
