Nigeria: Niger Condemns Booing of Wushishi

Niger State government has condemned the booing of former Chief of Army Staff, General Muhamadu Inuwa Wushsishi on Friday at the Judiciary Commission of Inquiry (JCI).

The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice of Niger State, Barrister Adamu Usman at a media briefing in Minna yesterday, expressed government's bitterness on what he described as unfortunate and unruly assault on the person of General Wushishi, stressing that it violated his rights.

Usman alleged that the crowd was sponsored to humiliate the elder statesman, adding that the state would exhaust all possible ways to get to the root of the matter. He said already some persons had been arrested and are with law enforcement agents giving useful information on their involvement.

"Some group of people who felt they could violate the law decided to molest General Wushishi. There cannot be two governments in Niger State. The state government has therefore, taken steps to deal decisively with those responsible", he said.

He said the state government is not going to allow such trend to continue at the commission, adding that other personalities will not wish to come to the commission for fear of such violations.

It would be recalled that General Wushishi was summoned by the commission on the instance of Engineer Abdulahi Kure to testify on the N221m tractor contract between the Niger State government and Metagro Company, owned by the General.

General Wushishi had exonerated former Governor Abdullahi Kure of allegation of fraud as he openly admitted there was no connivance between him and the governor to supply substandard tractors to the state.
