No fewer than 39 persons were convicted of drug hawking by a Kano Mobile Magistrate court established to prosecute illegal drug dealers and related offenders the state Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Aishatu Isiaku Kiru has said.
She told newsmen in her office yesterday, that the convicts include those who sold drugs in metallic containers as well as drugs hawkers.
The commissioner assured of the state government's commitment to safeguard public health, while emphasizing that the court would not spare anyone found dealing in illegal drugs.
She urged members of the public to patronise hospitals and certified health centres for medical attention while urging them to desist from self medication.
Also speaking, the director pharmaceutical services of the ministry, Alhaji Nasidi has said the drugs confiscated from the convicts would be handed over to the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for destruction.
Alhaji Nasidi said the drugs confiscated include Tramol, Benyline with Cordine and Aphrodisic among others.
