Finalists in the maiden edition of the Sam Okwaraji football competition emerged during the week and would be slugging it out on Tuesday at the Sam Okwaraji Stadium, Orlu, Imo State. Coordinator of the competition which trophy was donated by Senator Osita Izunazo Hon. Chuks Adikue said in an interview at the weekend that arrangements had been concluded on stage a hitch free, successful finals.His words "I can assure you that everything is in place already for the match. We have been working round the clock to ensure that the standard is not compromised."

Adikue further stated that Senator Izunaso instituted the competition in honour of late Super Eagles midfielder Samuel Okwaraji who died on August 9, 1989 inside the main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere Lagos while featuring for the country in a World Cup qualifier against Angola.

He further explained that the competition was also aimed at discovering young and talented Nigerians whom he said would eventually emerge future national team players. "Apart from the fact that Senator Izunaso instituted the competition in honour of Okwaraji who hailed from the zone, the competition is also aimed at discovering young and talented Nigerians that will take over from some of the aging legs in the national teams."

Among dignitaries expected at the closing ceremony include senators, members of the House of Representatives, members of the Imo State House of Assembly and well meaning Nigerians. He also confirmed that the Minister of Youth, Sports and Social Development will be represented while the Imo State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Professor Nnamdi Obiaraeri will represent the governor Chief Ohakim.Orlu and Nkwere will contest the third place match which will hearld the final.
