Abuja — The new Minister of Health, Prof Babatunde Oshotimehin, has pledged to make community health Insurance as one of the core areas of his administration.

Prof Osotimehin who gave this disclosure yesterday when he assumed duty at the ministry's headquarters in Abuja, said that since most people live in the local government, there was need to ensure they get prompt access to healthcare delivery and well-trained personnel to provide the services.

He said, " What we have before us is the challenge of transforming the health sector in Nigeria, but with the assistance of the various stakeholders, it will be possible. We recognise that most of our people live in the local government areas and if we must mobilise, we must mobilize from that level. We will work with states to mobilise for the Primary Health Care centres."

The new health minister added that Nigerians can no longer wait for better health, saying, " We are going to deliver on target which we set for ourselves.
