Cameroon: Fons Renew Confidence in Ntumfor

Northwest Fons have renewed their confidence in Ntumfor Nico Halle, saying he remains their one and irreplaceable ambassador. The confidence renewal took place in Awing during the 10th anniversary celebration of Fon Fozo'o, Fon of Awing.

Speaking on behalf of the Fons, Fon Sehm Mbinglo III of Nso, whom Fon Chafah XI succeeded as NOWEFU President General, called on Ntumfor Nico Halle to continue his indefatigable service for the Fons and the Northwest Region.

In concord, the rest of the Fons formed a circle round Ntumfor, blessed him and promised to stand resolutely behind him.The over 40 Fons present included Fon Fobuzie of Chomba, former NOWEFU Secretary General, Fon Gwan Mbanyamsig III of Guzang, Fon Hans Anagho of Ngwo Village and Fon Fuekemshi III of Baba 1, auditor of NOWEFU. Hundreds of gunshots saluted the decision.

Fon Fozo's anniversary celebration was preceded by an ecumenical service in which the Awing Fon was given the attributes of the celebrated Biblical King Solomon.Whereas other traditional rulers and politicians manipulate the people, Fon Fozo'o was portrayed as one imbued with fatherly qualities and loved by his people.

Ntumfor Halle, the chairman of the organising committee, lavished encomiums on the Fon of Awing.According to him, the Fon was not celebrating just 10 years on the throne, but a decade of achievements, among them the bringing of electricity to Awing.

Ntumfor recalled the saying that there are four categories of people: those who make things happen, those who wonder why things happen, those who exploit the things that happen and the spoilers.

According to him, Fon Fozo'o and all those assembled in Awing to celebrate his achievements were among those who make things happen. The Awing Fon, Ntumfor said, was a man of peace who had built a good relationship with his people.

Like in all human relationships, some turbulence occurs once in a while. This, however, is easily taken care of.One obvious challenge to Fon Fozo'o's reign, Ntumfor continued, comes from his detractors who not only target him, but also some of his elite. Fortunately again, the Fon and his elite are equal to the task and always put the detractors to shame.

Ntumfor reiterated his declaration that the best house in the village should be occupied by the Fon, just as that in the Region and the nation should have as occupants the governor and head of state, respectively.

He emphasized the importance of non-violence and peaceful coexistence. Also speaking on the occasion, Philip Penanje, President of the Ndong/Awing Development and Cultural Association, NACDA, equally heaped encomiums on the Awing Fon, saying he has been very supportive of all their activities.

Under his reign, Penanje said, NACDA has grown from strength to strength. The only problem facing the village, he said, is that of insecurity along the road leading to Awing. He called on the administration to find a lasting solution to this problem.

The occasion was characterised by dramatic events like gun firing. In this domain, a delegation from Balikumbat led by Fon Doh himself excelled.Other highlights were traditional rites performed by Awing traditional societies and dancing and award of prices to meritorious sons and daughters of Balikumbat as well as to distinguished guests, among them, SDF Chairman, John Fru Ndi and Uphie Melo Chinje, Director of the local material company, MIPROMALO.

The Northwest Governor, Abakar Ahamat, was represented by the Secretary General in the Northwest Governor's office.
