Eritrea: First Assessment Symposium On Art Works in the Tigre Language Concludes Adopting Recommendations

Asmara — The First Assessment Symposium on Art Works in the Tigre Language that was conducted at the Hager Media Hall within the premises of the Ministry of Information concluded yesterday adopting a number of recommendations.

In the symposium in which more than 500 people from inside the country and abroad took part, eight study papers were presented, including the role of arts in the existence and identity of society, intellectual property copyright and its impact in societal progress and artistic works, origin of traditional and modern melody and poetry in the Tigre language, as well as oral poetry in the language.

Following extensive discussion on the papers presented, the participants put forth significant recommendations highlighting the need for setting up a committee that would strive for the development of the Tigre language, publishing a magazine at least once a year, releasing an album comprising of best songs by veteran and young artists at least once a year, publishing more books as a basis for the production of motion pictures and dramas, organizing regular arts competition in different parts of the country, making special sponsorship for promoting the production of films and dramas, seeking a means for releasing previously produced arts work to the public, stepping up efforts for bequeathing the skill of handcraft to youths and nurturing the culture of team work on the part of artists so as to produce quality works, among others.

Speaking at the closing session, the Head of Organizational Affairs at the PFDJ, Mr. Abdala Jabir, expressed appreciation to all those who took the initiative in organizing the symposium and stressed its significance in the development of art works in the Tigre language, besides enhancing the nation-building process.

Noting the major contribution of national cultural values for the success of all-round reconstruction endeavors, the PFDJ official called for full utilization of the nation's cherished values in all activities of art works.

It is to be recalled that the First Assessment Symposium on Art Works in the Tigre Language opened on the 19th of December in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, ministers, senior PFDJ officials, regional Administrators, Army Commanders, religious leaders, ambassadors and invited guests.
