The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo has appealed to the people of the Volta region to reconsider their position not to support the party and vote for him massively on December 28 to enable him to continue the development efforts of President Kufour.
He said, he was not happy about the continuous rejection of the NPP by Volterians because a strong relationship existed between the two regions, through some of their past prominent people. He stressed the need to change the trend since the people could not continue sidelining the NPP in the region.
Nana Akufo-Addo, who was speaking on a local radio station, Volta Star Radio, on Sunday in Ho, basically to express the NPP and his appreciation to the people of the region, for the support shown to the NPP in the 7th December elections, and noted that even though some of the people in the region voted for him which made it possible to win the first round, the number was still not encouraging.
The NPP Presidential Candidate pointed out that the party was satisfied with the people of Nkwanta-North who continued to vote for the NPP thereby retaining the only seat of the party in the Volta region, adding that the people in the northern part of the region equally impressed the party in the 7th December elections, particularly Krachi-East and West, and urged the people to vote for him as the next President in the December 28th run-off.
Nana Akufo-Addo stressed that the NPP continues to increase popular votes in the Volta region consistently, but the people could do better by voting for the party in a more considerate way than the current voting pattern, adding that the December 28th run-off was another opportunity for Voltarians to show their support for the NPP by voting massively for him as President.
He said the NPP, under the leadership of President Kufour had improved the economic situation of the country and that when given the mandate as the next President, he would build on the gains made so far to enhance the economic opportunities of the country without ethnic and tribal discrimination, as the NPP clearly demonstrated through the equal distribution of development activities across the country, in the almost eight years in government.
Nana Akufo-Addo again reiterated his promise that when voted as President, he would establish a Public University in the Volta region, as well as other regions, which were without public Universities in the country, noting that for accelerated development, every region ought to have a public university to ensure accelerated development.
He explained that Ghana should not compare itself to America and other countries, which were far ahead of it in terms of development but could compare reasonably with countries like Malaysia, which based its development on education. He said there as many as 47 Public Universities in that country, which helped to propel its rapid development.
Nana Akufo-Addo said his decision to establish Public Universities in the Volta region and other regions was to build a sound human resource, capable of studying the available economic opportunities in the regions and take the necessary steps to promote economic activities in areas such as agriculture and industry.
He said it was surprising that the Volta region where the people were hard working and valued education had no Public University and asked that the people of the Volta region should vote for him as the President to change things.
