Nigeria: Kano Earmarks N12 Million for UME Forms

Kano — Kano State government has approved the purchase of 3,000 Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) form for the Universities Matricuation Examination (UME), worth N12 million, to be distributed freely to students, as part of efforts to boost education in the state.

Special Adviser to the governor on Students Affairs, Dr. Tijjani Muhammad Naniya said those who qualified for the free forms were those who wished to enrol in various Nigerian universities. He the gesture was meant for students who could not afford the forms and those that might lose their chance of continuing their education, adding that the cheque for the purchase of the forms had since been paid to the JAMB zonal coordinator in Kano, at N4, 000 per student.

According to him, the forms would be distributed on institutional basis, for subsequent distribution to deserving and screened students by various educational outfit and other relevant bodies in the state.

Naniya said eligible candidates must possess a minimum of five credits, including Mathematics and English Language in either the West African Examination Council (WAEC) or National Examinations Council (NECO) or Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE)
