Former Nigerian International, Ikpe Ekong has cheated death as he escaped unhurt in a motor accident at Victoria Island in Lagos on Wednesday.
Ekong who returned to the Country for Holiday after a hectic season in Sweden where he plays for Djurgarden FC was involved in an auto crash involving his Mercedes jeep and another car at Victoria Island in Lagos.
Ekong had obeyed the newly installed red traffic light waiting while watching some drivers beating the stop sign in typical 'Nigerian manner'.
Ekong saw the light go green again and moved only for a speeding vehicle from the adjoining road not minding the red light shown on that side to hit his car from the side with a devastating impact.
"Blood of Jesus was the only thing that I remember screaming while my friend in the passenger seat was also shouting Jesus," Ikpe told KickOffNigeria.com via the telephone from the Police Station.
"It was a miracle that we were unhurt but the driver of the other car can't say the same as his legs and arms were badly hurt."
The police in Lagos are investigating the matter.
"My brother, I am still surprised, it happened so fast and it is still like a dream to me, I saw death and God delivered me from it's claws, help me thank God," the defensive midfielder who is also an Evangelist said.
Ekong is about the most travelled Nigerian player having played in four, out of the five continents. He has played in Italy, Mexico, Bulgaria, Spain, China and currently in Sweden.

Terrible journalism. What proof do you have that this footballer obeyed traffic rules and the other person did not? Did you see the accident with your own eyes? Did you see the position of the vehicles after the accident and do a geometrical analysis to determine who was driving too fast? Learn how to be a neutral, professional journalist. Who knows? Maybe the footballer should be put in jail for 5-10 years. Seems more likely, given the vehicle he was driving and the damage done to the other driver.
