Guinea: President Johnson Sirleaf Leaves for Conakry, Guinea

Monrovia — The Chairperson of the Mano River Union (MRU), President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has left the country for Conakry, Guinea, on a one day visit.

The Liberian leader is to attend the state funeral of fallen Guinean President Lasana Conte. She will be joined at the funeral of the late Guinean leader by her MRU counterparts, Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma and Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo. The President, as head of the Mano River Union Heads of State, seeks to promote good neighborliness with sub-regional neighbors in this period of mourning.

During the President's absence, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. Ambulai Johnson, will coordinate the affairs of Government in consultation with Vice President Joseph Boakai.

The President is expected to return home this evening.
