Ghana: Kingston Keen on Champs League

28 December 2008

Ghana midfielder Laryea Kingston is keen on rubbing shoulders with his compatriots Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari in the Uefa Champions League.

The Scotland-based player finished third in the SWAG Player of the Year behind Chelsea's Essien and Inter Milan ace Muntari last week.

Now Kingston wants to the competition a bit further by challenging his compatriot in Europe's top flight club competition.

There are 24 million people in the country so to be third you have to appreciate it.

He said: "It's such a big honour to be up there with these guys.

"Michael and Sulley are world class and play for two of the biggest clubs in the world. My motto has always been if you're not first then be with the first.

"It's not a bad thing to be the third best player in Ghana. It's a big award there, the players take it seriously.

"There are 24 million people in the country so to be third you have to appreciate it.

"However, every player's aim is to improve and these two guys are in the Champions League, one of the biggest competitions in the world.

"I would love to play in it."

Kingston is in the middle of his best run of form and fitness since arriving at Jambos two years ago and has been linked with a move to England next month.
